Haze

We have been suffering from haze problem over the past week which causes a great deal of trouble to us.

The government has issued a state of emergency for Muar and Ledang districts of Johor when the haze broke the air pollution index record of the peninsula, which went up more than 700 points.

The state of emergency was lifted following the haze condition improved in the two districts.

Instead of declaring the state of emergency which is not really that helpful in protecting the health of the people, the government should, through aggressive media channels to educate the people on how to deal with the haze crisis.

The state of emergency should only be declared when lives are in real threat, but not simply on the ground of health effect. This will only be causing fear among the people, giving a wrong message to foreign investors, and at the same time not solving the real problem at all.

The government and the mass media should at this point in time give frequent reminders to the people to drinking plenty of water, avoiding outdoor activities and explaining the health hazards of haze so that people can always take preventive steps in protecting themselves and their family.
