KL police to set up liaison unit for expats and tourists

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur police will set up an International Liaison Unit to make it easier for expatriates and tourists to interact with the police.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohmad Salleh said the unit would be established soon in making the Federal capital's police a world-class outfit.
"The establishment of the unit has been agreed upon by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar and we will choose the officers, whether with the rank of Superintendent or Deputy Superintendent of Police to be members of the unit," he said after launching the Crime-Prevention Guidebook, here, Sunday.
Mohmad said those chosen needed to master various languages to facilitate communicating with foreigners.
On the guidebook, he said it contained tips on crime prevention and safety measures when faced with criminals whether in the home or outside.
Earlier, Mohamad and several senior police officers walked about the Alam Damai morning market in Cheras and distributed copies of the Crime Prevention Guidebook to the local residents and members of the public. - Bernama
